A message from the ONE-T Trustees
With the COVID-19 situation developing rapidly, you may be wondering about the impact on
your benefits coverage under ONE-T.
Given the speed and fluidity of the situation, it’s important to stay on top of the
latest
developments. Please read
this communication
from Canada Life for more details and resources, and please
continue to
consult the various government resources available.
Here’s a quick summary of what you need to know.
Benefits coverage –
Rest assured, your benefits coverage will continue uninterrupted.
Our members are our first priority, and we are doing our best to maintain high-quality service during these
challenging times.
We do not currently anticipate any disruptions, but to ensure the best possible service, we recommend contacting the
member call centres (Cowan and Canada Life) only for critical or time-sensitive questions and holding off on any
general inquiries.
COVID-19-related claims –
Claims related to COVID-19 or claims incurred during travel to a country with travel advisory warnings will be
treated like any other claim under your plan. Canada Life will cover medical treatments related to the initial
medical emergency in accordance with their plan provisions, as well as follow-up treatment if you are unable to get
home prior to the end of your trip due to quarantine (provided you are not refusing to be evacuated).
There is no coverage for incidental expenses such as hotels, meals and/or cost of missed flights if you are
quarantined as a preventative measure. Support may be available from the Federal government.
If you are quarantined –
People who are medically quarantined, or who are quarantined due to exposure to COVID-19, pose a risk to the general
population and should follow the local health authority's instructions. If you have been travelling, you must
self-isolate for 14 days upon your return.
