Premium contributions begin

March 1, 2025

In July, we advised you that ONE-T was considering sharing a portion of Health and Dental premium costs with P/VP Members, but we deferred the decision until after Provincial negotiations were completed. With benefit costs rising faster than the funding provided by the Province, this is an important measure to help ensure the sustainability of your Benefits Plan.

Provincial negotiations are now complete, and we have reviewed the details of the final P/VP Agreement, which outlines how much funding is available for your benefits. Based on this information and our actuarial reports that provide multi-year forecasts of the financial position of the P/VP Plan, we have decided that we need to proceed with the introduction of Member premium contributions effective March 1, 2025. This was a difficult decision for Trustees to make but it is necessary.

What does this mean for you?

Starting March 1, 2025, a deduction will be taken from each pay to cover 6% of your Health and Dental premiums. Here is a snapshot of what your total monthly deduction will be as of March 1, 2025:

If you live in Ontario*If you live in Quebec*
Health – single coverage$13.15$13.28
Health – family coverage$28.06$28.32
Dental – single coverage$4.86$4.91
Dental – family coverage$13.22$13.34

*Monthly deductions include provincial sales tax for your province of residence.

In the future, your monthly deduction may be adjusted each Plan year (i.e., September 1 to August 31), once we have performed the annual assessment of the Plan’s financial position.

What happens next?

There is nothing you need to do. ONE-T and our administrator, Cowan, will work with the School Boards to set up your new payroll deduction.

We will be in touch early in the new year to share additional details and to answer Member questions.
